Austin's Bat Colony In 1980, a team of engineers designing the Congress Avenue bridge unknowingly created crevices that would soon become the home to the largest urban bat colony in North America. In celebration of an Austin original, the Austin Bat Run 5K will convene on the north shore of Lady Bird Lake at the Buford Bell Tower. The Run/Walk will commemorate the 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats that call Austin home.
Start The Austin Bat Run 5K will begin at the Buford Bell Tower in downtown Austin located at the intersection of West Cesar Chavez Street and Colorado Street.
Finish The Austin Bat Run 5K will finish in the parking lot on Auditorium Shores located on the West side of the South First Street bridge.
