The University of Texas men's track-and-field team won the team title on Sunday at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City, beating perennial track powerhouses as LSU, Tennessee and Arkansas.
Leading the way for the Longhorns, was Leo Manzano who won the mile in 3:59.08--the fastest time by a collegian this year--but his time just missed being an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Also getting provisional qualifying marks in New York City, were Darren Brown in the mile (4:02.93) and Jake Morse in the championship flight of the 3000 (8:02.10). In another flight of the 3000, Owen Washburn placed third in 8:12.37 with Andrew Middleton finishing seventh in 8:15.17.
Next up for the Longhorns is the Tyson Invitational next weekend on the indoor oval at Arkansas which will also be the venue for the NCAA Indoors in March.
