USA Track & Field announced on Thursday the 11road races that will be hosting its road national championships in 2007.
The good news is that the 8-K championships (for men and women) and the men's 10-K championships are back on the schedule after a one-year absence. The 8-K wasn't held last year as the New York Road Runners hosted the USA Cross-Country Champs instead. The men's 2006 10-K championships was supposed to be the Senior Bowl in Mobile, but it was cancelled after initially being on the 2006 schedule. In 2007, the Peachtree Road Race, one of the most prestigious road races in the world, will host the US men's 10-K championships on its traditional July 4th date.
The 2007 US Championship schedule ends with the biggest championship of the year, the men's Olympic Marathon Trials in New York, and its $250,000 payday. This men's marathon trials will be the first time the trials have been held in the fall of the year prior to the Olympics.
The Aramco Houston Half Marathon in 2007 has increased its US prize money by 42% percent from 2006 to $29,750 on both the men's and women's side. The Gate River Run also is increasing its prize money, while the New Alliance New Haven Road Race is decreasing its US money.
