Multi-time state champion runner Alan Culpepper, who finished 12th at the Athens Olympics in the marathon, fourth in the Boston Marathon last year and fifth this year, was inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame on Wednesday night at ceremonies at UTEP's Tomas Rivera Room. Culpepper won five of his Texas state high school track and cross-country championships in Austin.
"Well, I'm honored obviously," said Culpepper, a Coronado High School graduate who was an All American and NCAA champion at Colorado. "This is a big honor to be included in such a great crew. For me, it's interesting simply because I'm not really in that mindset of feeling that my career is over. I'm really pleased that El Paso would recognize me in this way, and I have such fond memories of starting my running process here."
