
Greg Lautenslager, a former world-class runner and Dallas
sportswriter who now coaches runners in Nelson, New Zealand, will be in Austin
on Friday April 7thto sign copies of his debut novel Following The Flame.
Lautenslager, a former state champion in the one mile run, still holds high
school records in the mile and two mile from Bishop Lynch and North Mesquite
High Schools and the 5,000 meters record at Texas Tech from the mid-1970s
- He competed in four U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials before writing for
The Dallas Morning News from 1992-2001. He was the running columnist in Dallas
and Arlington during that time and covered more than 35 sports. - He was the cross country and distance coach at the University of North Texas
from 1998-2001 and was named the 2000 SunBelt Conference Cross Country Coach
of the Year after his men's team won the conference title. - He is now the head track and field coach of Athletics Nelson in New Zealand
and has coached seven runners to national championships during the past three
years. He also has won 10 national medals as a masters runner and writes feature
stories for The Nelson Mail.
