Two-time U.S. Olympian Alan Culpepper will run the Freescale Half Marathon on February 19th, Freescale director John Conley announced Thursday. Snaring Culpepper, a native Texan, to run Freescale is a major coup for the race. Even though Culpepper is running the half (and not the full marathon), he is the biggest name to ever run in the race's 15-year history.
Culpepper, who lives with his Shayne (also an Olympian) and young son Cruz in Lafayette, Colorado, right outside Boulder, is using the fast, downhill Freescale course to prepare for his second shot at running the Boston Marathon. Last year, Culpepper went out too quickly at Boston and was disappointed with his 2:13:39 finish.
Culpepper grew up in El Paso and won multi state high school championships, but didn't run his senior year for his high school. Instead, he trained with the UTEP team but still earned a track scholarship to the University of Colorado where he won an NCAA 5000-meter championship.
