The Mizuno Wave Rider 11 is an easy transition from the Rider 10 in that the overall fit and feel has not dramatically changed. The biggest change in the shoe design is itself an easier transition… from heel to forefoot! This new technology allows the shoe to hold its form throughout the gait cycle.
It is only good news that Mizuno is staying the course with the Wave Rider, which has become a staple for many runners. It was heralded as one of the premier midweight neutral running shoes from its inception, garnering Runner’s World’s Editor’s Choice Award back in 1999. The line has featured regular updates to improve on that design which led to Runner’s World’s Best Update Award for the Wave Rider 6 in 2003.
The smoother transition in the Wave Rider 11 comes from they Dynamotion Fit technology that Mizuno has incorporated in many of their most popular lines for 2008 including the Wave Elixir 3, the Wave Creation 9, Wave Inspire 4 and Wave Nirvana 4. In traditional shoe construction as the midsole is compressed upon heel strike, the upper material bends or folds slightly near the heel creating a gap between the ankle and the shoe. The Dynamotion Fit design uses two-peace heel construction and strategically placed stress relief areas to absorb the contortion of the shoe throughout the pressures exerted on it by the runner. The new design leads to a better fit and more efficient motion of the shoe.
