During a conversation recently, I realized that there are numerous parks and resources for runners and walkers in and around the Austin Area that are for the most part unknown. The Berry Springs Park and Preserve is one of those unknown parks.
Berry Springs Park and Preserve, the Donkey Park as my kids call it, is located just north of Georgetown, near the intersection of IH-35 and Toll Road 130. The park features camp grounds, hike and bike trails, playscape, historical homestead, and donkeys. It is named after John Berry, an early settler to Williamson County. The park is covered in large pecan trees, lined orchard style.
The Park has six loop trails of varied surfaces all ranging in distance from 0.3 to 1.5 miles. The loops and their respective distance are the Camp Loop, 0.3 mile; Pecan Grove Loop, 0.7 mile; Mill Pond Loop, 0.7 mile; Spring Loop, 1.1 mile; Meadow Loop, 1.1 mile; and the Muy Grande Loop, 1.5 miles.
If you need a change of venue then I recommend the short drive out to Berry Springs Park and Preserve, it is a family friendly running and walking park.
